Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
City officials said they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior official commented the incident made him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
